Mad barb

The Mad Barb (Leptobarbus hoevenii) is found in the floodplains of southeast Asia from Thailand to Sumatra and Borneo. This cyprind lives is schools and is known for its eating of fruit and seeds of chaulmoogra tree (Hydnocarpus anthelminthica) which is believed to be toxic. When the Mad Barb eats fruit that fall into the water, it is reported to become intoxicated and behaves in a peculiar manner. Eating flesh of the fish during the wrong season can cause nausea in humans.
