The Ebony langur lives in the tropical forests of Indonesia on the islands of Java, Bali, and Lombok. There are two main color forms, a black one and a yellowish orange one as seen on the left. The Ebony langur lives in social groups of around seven individuals and feeds on leaves, fruit, flowers, flower buds, and insect larvae.

The name ‘langur’ means ‘long tail’ in Hindu, one of the native languages of Indonesia.

The Ebony langur is endangered due to hunting and habitat destruction for logging and agriculture.
