 Yellow-Banded Poison Frog (Dendrobates leucomelas)

Yellow-Banded Poison Frog (Dendrobates leucomelas)

The yellow poison dart frog is a frog found in the rainforests of Venezuela, a country located in northern South America. The coloration of the yellow poison dart frog serves as a warning to warn predators that it is poisonous. If a predator eats the yellow poison dart frog it will become very sick.

Yellow poison dart frogs are poisonous due to their diet which consists of ants and other small insects that have small amounts of toxins in their bodies. The frogs eat these insects without getting sick themselves.

In captivity these frogs can live as long as 15 years.
